The Other Face of Filfla:
Cruise around the Island of Filfla
The Malta Geographical Society is organising a three-hour cruise from Marsaxlokk to near the island of Filfla and back to Marsaxlokk, as follows:
Date: Tuesday 31 July 2012
Time: 5.45pm Departure: 6.00pm Return: approx 9.00pm
Meeting: Marsaxlokk Bay, on the right hand side, near the football pitch, just before reaching St. Lucian Tower, Kavallerizza zone.
Trip: By a sea craft of LUZZU CRUISES, departing from the jetty near the football ground, going out of the Marsaxlokk harbour and directly to the island of Filfla.
We cannot disembark on Filfla which is a Nature Reserve. Filfla (the name is derived from the Maltese ‘filfel’ or red pepper) is about 5 km south of Wied iz-Zurrieq.
We will cruise around the islands of Filfla and Filflet, and then head north towards Ghar Lapsi. We will then cruise back along the shoreline until we return to Marsaxlokk Bay on the same Jetty. By this time it is expected to be already dark.
- NORMALLY the sea is calm in the evenings during the full moon period. The full moon is on the 2nd August at 0528 hrs. Moonrise on the 31 July is at 18.43 hrs.
- Sunset is at 20.07 hrs, so it may be possible to see the sunset from the sea.
- Bar and toilets will be available on board. One can bring his/her own snack and drinks.

Price: Euro 8 for members and non-members.
Euro 4 for Children under 12 years, accompanied by an adult.
Booking: Similar to Saturday walks, on-line or by post.

MGS Transport Secretary, 36 Transfiguration Avenue, Lija LJA 1017, to be received no later than Monday 16th July 2012. Payment will be collected before boarding.
Since places are limited, members (and their guests) will be given preference if they book by the 16th July. After this date, booking will be on the first come first served basis.
Cancellations are accepted up 23rd July, after which date those booked will be charged the full fare.
