The Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs (MRRA), together with
the Sliema Local Council, will be organising a Flowers and Arts Festival
in Bisazza Street, Sliema, between the 7th and the 9th June 2012, from
10.00am to 8.00pm. On the 7th June, a public holiday, the shops in this
commercial centre will be open. This is another activity forming part
of the Naturalment Malti campaign with the aim of increasing public
awareness on local agricultural produce.
The main theme of this Festival is flowers and arts. With the
participation of local nurseries, during these three days Bisazza Street,
will be transformed into a floral, artistic garden. These companies will
be embellishing the environment of this commercial zone while, at the
same time, they will also be offering their services and products to
those in attendance. One will find a wide variety of Maltese traditional artisan handicrafts
such as lace, loom woven rugs and blankets, cane baskets and
furniture, filigree items, pottery, ceramics, the Maltese Clock (tal-lira),
wood restoration, gilding and more. Exhibition space will also be
dedicated to the arts of painting and sculpture. During the festival
artisans and artists will be exhibiting their talents in their respective
craftsmanship.
The background of this activity shall be music. Throughout the three
days various musicians will be entertaining those visiting Bisazza
Street. This activity caters for all the family and it will be offering an
opportunity for adults and children alike to get closer to nature and
art. The young ones can try their hands at different crafts and even
plant-potting.
Local artisan food products and delicacies such as Maltese cheeselets
(ġbejniet), honey, olive oil, sweets and wine will also be available
during this Festival.
