The Photography Exhibition will be held mainly to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Liberation of Leningrad by the Soviet Soldiers from the German Fascist Siege

The Siege of Leningrad is an unparalleled event in world history. No other large city, especially a metropolis with nearly 3 million people, could resist such a long-lasting siege – over two and a half years. No other city of the world lost so many civilians: children, women, and old people. Unfortunately, even now historians are not able to count the exact number of victims. At the Nurnberg trials it was announced that 641,000 of civilians died. However, scientific research indicates that the number of casualties was much greater – between 800,000 and one million people. Around 980,000 soldiers and officers of the Red Army were killed during the battle for Leningrad. That was a hefty price paid by one of the world’s most beautiful cities – the city which according to Hitler’s plan should be razed to the ground – simply to earn its right to exist. The battle for Leningrad became the longest battle in the history of World War .

The siege suffocated the city for 872 days – from September 8, 1941 till January 27, 1944 – the day the Siege was finally lifted.
